The Ottawa Taras Shevchenko Monument Committee's historic initiative to establish a national monument to Taras Shevchenko in Canada's National Capital has been established and requires our assistance and cooperation.
The Committee has received the full support of our Ukrainian Bishops in Canada, the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada and the Ukrainian community at large.
This monument will be located on the edge of the Ukrainian Catholic Shrine of St. John the Baptist, adjacent to the Rideau Canal and highly visible from the main auto route. Its completion and unveiling is planned for the summer of 2010. It will be a visible national symbol and lasting legacy for our 1.2 million-strong Ukrainian-Canadian community.
The project description and status, history, documentation, donor list, and photos are displayed on the monument website
http://www.infoukes.com/tarasinottawa and http://www.infoukes.com/tarasinottawa/zhertvodavci.htm.
It is with pride and conviction in the value of this project for our Ukrainian Canadian community that I request the help of all our faithful in making it happen.
